Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce issued this statement in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation at Pearl Harbor:

"Today marks the 74th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and we remember the over 2,000 lives lost that Sunday morning in Hawaii," stated Pearce. "I am humbled by the selfless acts in the hours, days, and years that followed our nation being struck to its very core. The Greatest Generation emerged, rebuilding our country and overcoming our adversaries. They did not hide or cower in fear of their enemy, but stood firm in face of peril to ensure security for our generations to come. They defined what it means to be American for the world. They exemplified courage, strength, and resilience, and will be forever known as America's best."

"Just weeks ago, I was privileged enough to meet with several World War II veterans as they toured their memorial in Washington, DC. I stood in their shadows - fortified with all Americans by their place in history and unwavering dedication to our country - and listened to their stories. It was an honor to be able to hear their accounts of WWII, forever humble even in retelling moments of great valor. They are the backbone of our society and rightly deserve our gratitude and admiration.

"America is in a similar time of peril today, as adversaries wish us harm and threaten our prosperity across the globe. As the Greatest Generation taught us, we cannot cower in the face of intimidation; we cannot withdraw in the face of terrorism. Our nation is strongest when we act as one, united in freedom instead of in fear."
