On Sunday, January 31, Lynnette and Wayne Brown, along with Lucy Potts will present Opportunity in the Land of Eternal Spring. Guatemala is known as "the land of the eternal spring" and happens to be one of the most beautiful countries of Central America. In the last four years, the Browns have traveled and lived in parts of western Guatemala, especially in the region called the Western Highlands in the state of Sololá. Their experiences culminated in the creation of a non-profit corporation aimed at sponsoring youth scholarship.
According to Lynnette: "In the highlands of Guatemala, many young adults – especially young women – are not able to complete their education beyond the sixth grade. Often they are trapped with scant opportunity to thrive and grow because they must concentrate all their energy on survival." In their presentation, rich in photos, anecdotes, and artifacts, the Browns, accompanied by Ms. Potts, will speak about the people and culture of Sololá, Guatemala as well as new opportunities available to young Guatemalans through their non-profit called Friends of FORMA.
