The Town of Silver City is seeking public input on a new Bicycle Master Plan. The first meeting will be Tuesday, January 5, 2015 from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM in the 2nd floor conference room of the City Annex I building at the corner of Hudson and 12th.St. The general public is encouraged to attend.
The Bicycle Master Plan will be developed by Charlie Deans and Paige Winslett from Community by Design, along with Tim Rogers, the person who developed the Santa Fe Bicycle Master Plan. Public input is critical in order to create a plan that accommodates the needs and concerns of the Town's citizens and visitors.
The meeting will review the project scope and timeline, and discuss previous planning efforts in Silver City. This will include the Safe Routes to School Plan and other existing transportation efforts over the last ten years. There will be an opportunity to address bicycle-related issues and potential opportunities for improvements.
The final plan will include recommendations for education and outreach to encourage bicycle use and to promote bicycle awareness and safety among diverse groups. The plan will detail how to implement specific projects that are prioritized and include estimated costs and potential funding sources.
This will be the first of several meetings to discuss the Bicycle Master Plan. For those who are not able to attend that evening you can submit written comments to the Office of Sustainability, P.O. Box 1188, Silver City, NM 88062 or by email to denisesmithnpc@gmail.com.
