Job Training Incentive Program Awards Six Companies $1,185,103. ...

Santa Fe, NM - The New Mexico Economic Development Department's (NMEDD) Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) Board approved $1,185,103.20 in funding for six companies to create 133 jobs in December.

"As the private-sector continues to grow and diversify, we will see more companies like these, both large and small, existing and new, create jobs and train workers through JTIP," said Economic Development Secretary Jon Barela. "JTIP is an invaluable tool in assisting enterprises expand their workforce."

December's JTIP recipients were:

National American University, Albuquerque - National American University (NAU), a well-established for-profit university operating in 36 locations across the United States, recently selected Albuquerque for its Distance Learning National Operations Center and a new division to centralize its student support services. NAU's Online 3.0 division in Albuquerque will provide a wide range of support services to students across the United States. 26 jobs, $323,440

Skorpios Technologies, Albuquerque - Skorpios is an Albuquerque based startup developing a patented, proprietary wafer-scale silicon photonics process to monolithically integrate silicon with existing complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technologies to create Silicon Photonic Integrated Circuits on a single chip. The technology can be used to address a wide range of applications, including high-speed video, data and voice communications for networking and cloud computing, storage and wireless and cable television. This delivers a number of important benefits, including lower power consumption, cost reduction, greater integration and significantly higher density. 31 jobs, $479,524

Private Label Select, Taos - Private Label Select Ltd. Co. is a privately owned manufacturing and product development facility, located in Taos, manufacturing natural and organic cosmetics and personal care products. The company specializes in lip balms, salves, organic personal care products, SPF and tinted lip care, lip glosses and organic skin care for women and babies. 10 jobs, $55,528

Wildflower International, Santa Fe - Wildflower International is New Mexico's largest woman-owned business. Wildflower provides total IT management solutions to the U.S. Federal Government worldwide. Headquartered in Santa Fe, Wildflower has experienced several expansions in the last few years. The company currently owns two facilities and leases a third in Santa Fe. 28 jobs, $220,654.80
Canon Information Technology Services, Albuquerque - Canon Information Technology Services is the support company for Canon products sold in the United States. Canon ITS provides customer support to end users and business customers on pre-sales, sales and post sales, provides product features and functionality information, and responds to all related inquiries on Canon product lines including: digital cameras, camcorders, printers, fax machines and copiers. 36 jobs, $79,556.40

Lavu, Inc., Albuquerque - Lavu, Inc. is a native New Mexico company, founded in 2010. The company sells Lavu iPad POS, proprietary point-of-sale software to restaurants to conduct their business on tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices. 2 jobs, 26,400 (amendment)

The Job Training Incentive Program reimburses qualified economic-based companies for a portion of training costs associated with job creation. The program provides for classroom or on-the-job training, reimbursing an expanding or relocating business for up to 75 percent of a trainee's wages for as long as six months. The amount of the award depends on the number and complexity of jobs, the wages paid, and the business location.

To qualify, new or expanding companies must either create a product in New Mexico, or provide a non-retail service with 50 percent of the company's costumer or revenue base outside of the state. The eligible jobs must be full-time and year-round. The trainee must be a new hire to the company and have been a New Mexico resident for at least one year at any time prior to being hired.
