It is a tragedy; a 17 year old boy and a teacher are dead. A 15 year old boy and 41 year old teacher are in critical condition at a local hospital. At 10:00 a.m. local time Thursday, in Trollhaten, Sweden, a man entered the Kronan school wearing a mask and helmet, carrying a sword. He then proceeded to attack students and teachers, stabbing and killing the two. He was later shot to death.
Anton Lundin Pettersson, 21, is allegedly the name of the killer. Media reports say his Facebook and You Tube accounts suggest he had an interest in Hitler, Nazi Germany, and was hostile to Islam and immigrants. Some reports suggest he may have asked his victims questions about their race or ethnicity before attacking them. He was also described as quiet and a loner into violent video games. Imagine that; quiet and a loner.
At first some people thought he was dressed for Halloween. Two students actually posed for a picture with him before he began killing. Another student walked towards him thinking it was a prank, then ran as he saw the young man stab one of the teachers.
Given the rhetoric on guns on this country, isn't it now time to ban swords, knives and other sharp edged instruments? These weapons are dangerous and caused at least two people to lose their lives, with two more hanging on by a string. This would not have happened had it not been for the easy access Pettersson had to the sword. Right? That's the 'principle' that we're told caused maniacs to kill people with guns, easy access to the weapon.
No this proves that killers will do whatever they can to achieve their goal of killing someone. They will use whatever weapon is available; it's not the gun or the sword, it's the person committing the act that needs to be dealt with.
But you will hear nary a peep about this killing in Sweden on American T.V. or radio because it doesn't fit the narrative that guns kill people. In fact, I would bet that some anti-gun advocates are upset that the 'happy ending' in this story was caused by a gun. Liberals, if they had principles, should want to ban swords now but they won't, because it isn't about preventing deaths, it's about banning guns.
