Lady Stang Golf Stands in 6th Place

With Bobbi Pierson nearing the top-10, the Western New Mexico University women’s golf team is in sixth after the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference No. 2 South Invitational at the UNM Championship Golf Course.

The Lady Mustangs fired a 333 on the par 72, 5,811 yard course to land in sixth. Midwestern State leads the 14 team field with a 302, holding a three-stroke lead over MSU Denver. MSU Denver’s Cha Cha Willhoite leads on the individual side with a 70, three ahead of the field.

Pierson was on her game Monday coming out strong with a 79 to sit in a tie for 12th. She utilized three birdies, tied for seventh best in the field to help her round. Shelby Turner and Adrianna Grijalva then finished a stroke apart with Turner in a tie for 26th with an 83 and Grijalva in a tie for 29th with an 84. Cheyenne Molina carded an 87 to land in a tie for 44th, while Gabby Singh rounds out the golfers for the Lady Mustangs in a tie for 69th with a 98.

As a team WNMU was in the top-five in par-three scoring (3.30) good for second and in par-five scoring (5.60) good for fifth. They recorded five birdies and 34 pars throughout the first round.

The Lady Mustangs will conclude the RMAC No. 2 on Tuesday morning beginning at 8 a.m.
